Periodic Safety Inspection is carried out by LLOYDS at regular intervals to ensure that elevators, escalators, and travellators remain safe for continued operation and comply with applicable standards, maintenance requirements, and regulatory guidelines. The procedure begins with a review of available documentation such as maintenance records, previous inspection reports, equipment identification details, and manufacturer specifications. LLOYDS inspectors then perform a systematic visual and functional inspection of the system, examining major components including the machine room equipment, traction machine, motor, brake system, control panels, suspension ropes or belts, guide rails, landing doors, and electrical systems to confirm that they are operating correctly and have not deteriorated due to wear or improper maintenance.

During the inspection, critical safety devices and operational functions are also verified to ensure safe operation of the system. This includes checking components such as the overspeed governor, safety gear, buffers, door interlocks, emergency stop switches, alarm systems, and other passenger safety features. Inspectors may observe operational performance such as car travel, leveling accuracy, door operation, and general equipment condition. The findings are recorded in a Periodic Safety Inspection Report, which identifies any observed deficiencies, maintenance issues, or safety concerns and provides recommendations for corrective actions to ensure the continued safe operation of the equipment.

Periodic Safety Inspection provides several important benefits to building owners, facility managers, contractors, and regulatory authorities by ensuring that elevators, escalators, and travellators continue to operate safely throughout their service life.

  1. Ensures Continuous Safety of Equipment
Confirms that the elevator or escalator system remains safe for passenger use and that critical safety devices are functioning properly.
  2. Early Detection of Wear and Defects
Identifies mechanical wear, electrical issues, or safety component deterioration before they lead to operational failures.
  3. Compliance with Safety Standards and Regulations
Verifies that the equipment continues to comply with applicable safety standards, maintenance requirements, and regulatory guidelines.
  4. Prevention of Accidents and Operational Failures
Regular inspections help detect potential hazards and reduce the risk of equipment malfunction or passenger incidents.
  5. Improved Reliability of Equipment
Ensures that elevators, escalators, and moving walks operate smoothly and reliably through regular monitoring and inspection.
  6. Support for Regulatory and Authority Requirements
Inspection reports assist building owners and operators in demonstrating compliance with regulatory authorities and safety departments.
  7. Extended Equipment Service Life
Early identification of maintenance needs helps prevent major failures and extends the operational life of the equipment.
  8. Independent Third-Party Verification
Provides objective verification from an independent inspection body confirming the safety status of the equipment.
  9. Improved Maintenance Planning
Inspection findings help maintenance teams prioritize repairs and plan preventive maintenance activities.
  10. Enhanced Confidence for Building Owners and Users
Regular safety inspections provide confidence that the equipment is being monitored and maintained according to proper safety standards.

After completion of the Periodic Safety Inspection conducted by Lloyds Inspection Agency America LLC, the following documents are typically issued to the client for safety verification, maintenance follow-up, and regulatory compliance records.

  1. Periodic Safety Inspection Report
A detailed report describing the inspection scope, equipment identification, inspection locations (machine room, shaft, cabin, pit), observations, operational checks, and overall condition of the equipment.
  2. Safety Compliance Verification Statement
A document confirming that the inspected elevator, escalator, or travellator has been reviewed for continued safe operation in accordance with applicable standards and maintenance requirements.
  3. Inspection Observation and Deficiency List
A list identifying any observed defects, safety concerns, or maintenance issues that may require corrective action.
  4. Corrective Action Recommendation Report
Recommendations provided by LLOYDS inspectors outlining required repairs, adjustments, or maintenance actions necessary to maintain safe operation.
  5. Photographic Inspection Record
Photographs taken during inspection showing equipment condition, safety devices, machine room components, and any observed issues.
  6. Equipment Identification Verification Sheet
A record confirming equipment details such as model numbers, serial numbers, manufacturer details, and installation location.
  7. Non-Conformance Report (NCR) – if applicable
A report documenting any major non-compliance or safety deficiency that must be corrected.
  8. Inspection Attendance Record
Documentation confirming the date, location, and presence of the LLOYDS inspector during the periodic inspection.
  9. Inspection Status Summary
A summary indicating the inspection status of the equipment, typically categorized as Acceptable, Acceptable with Observations, or Requires Corrective Action.
  10. Periodic Inspection Certificate (if applicable)
A certificate confirming that the equipment has undergone periodic inspection by LLOYDS and that the inspection report has been issued.

These documents provide the client with independent third-party verification of the safety condition of the equipment and support maintenance planning, regulatory compliance, and operational safety management.
